HONG KONG: Two men have been nabbed for alleged animal cruelty after a video clip showing one man putting a poodle inside a washing machine went viral.
Police arrested the suspects - identified only by their surnames Leung, 38, and Wong, 22 - on Friday at their Mongkok flat following a month of investigations in response to a complaint filed by Hong Kong's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), the Apple Daily reported.
In the 21-second video that first appeared on YouTube on July 28, one man was filmed placing a brown toy poodle inside a washing machine as the dog struggled to climb out.
The man then suddenly put down the lid on the dog and appeared to press some buttons to operate the machine.
His move panicked another man behind the camera who yelled: "Are you serious? Are you crazy? You idiot!"
It was not known if the machine was indeed switched on.
During the raid at the Mongkok flat, officers found a similar poodle that did not seem to be hurt.
In late August, a Hong Kong Facebook user by the name Jacky Lo put up photos and videos of a small white dog spinning inside a washing machine and claimed that the dog was dead.
Police had said they were investigating Lo's case for animal cruelty but no arrest had been made. – Singapore Straits Times/ANN

Man who 'bathed' dog in washing machine threatens to kill six more
PETALING JAYA: A man calling himself Jacky Lo on Facebook, who uploaded several photographs of a dog being "bathed" in a washing machine, has now allegedly threatened to kill several more dogs.
The South China Morning Post reported that Lo, presumably a Hong Kong resident, posted an update on his Facebook page on Friday, threatening to kill more dogs if nobody answered his questions correctly.
"I have six stray dogs with me," said Lo.
"I will ask a question every seven days. I will kill a dog if your answer is wrong and release one if the answer is correct. The fate of the dogs depends on you!"
The location on his page was reportedly at Tuen Mun town centre, in Hong Kong. Lo also updated his emoticon on his page, saying that he was feeling "fabulous".
Facebook has since disabled Lo's page.
Hong Kong police are apparently searching for Lo after he uploaded photos of a white Westland Terrier in a washing machine, struggling to keep its head above water.
Although the photos were uploaded last month, the photos went viral over the past few weeks on social media.
Lo allegedly called his method of "bathing" the dog as being "a super quick way to wash a dog: soak, clean and dry. All done. Clean and quick!"
He reportedly told a commenter that the dog had died and that he had "nothing to be scared of".
"I don't even think cruelty to humans is a problem, not to mention cats and dogs," said Lo.
