KLANG: Malaysia Airlines steward Shaikh Mohd Noor Mahmood’s wish to have a non-governmental organisation for all cabin crew members will soon become a reality as his colleagues are determined to set up one soon.
Flight attendant Hasnan Abdullah, 46, said Shaikh Mohd Noor’s last wish before his death was to form a foundation that could rope cabin crews in Malaysia together so they could share their thoughts and help those in need.
“Shaikh Mohd Noor even thought of the name for the association. I have conveyed this message to other crew members and the group should be formed soon,” he said at the Kampung Jawa cemetery yesterday where Shaikh Mohd Noor’s remains were buried.
Shaikh Mohd Noor, 44, was on board the ill-fated Malaysian Airlines, MH17, which was shot down near Eastern Ukraine.
His remains were the last of the cabin crew members’ to be brought home.
Shaikh Rashid, 22, who earlier wanted to follow in his brother’s footsteps and become a flight attendant, said he has put off that plan.
“My parents are not happy with the idea. I think that the best thing for now is to stay with my parents,” he said.
Shaikh Rashid works in a fast-food outlet in Port Klang.
His father Shaikh Mahmood Rashid, 70, thanked the Government for bringing home his son’s remains.
Also present at the funeral were Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, state Umno chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar and state executive councillor Dr Halimah Ali.
