Death sentence for AmBank founder’s killer

The Kuala Lumpur High Court today sentenced tow truck driver Koong Swee Kan to death after he was convicted of murdering Arab-Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi last year.
The 45-year old was also handed an 18-year sentence for attempting to murder Hussain's wife, Cheong Mei Kuen.
He was represented by Naizatul Zamrina Karizaman, Chee Kuat Lin and Nor Hashimah Abd Rahman.
High Court judge Justice Mohd Azman Husin handed out the sentence after he ruled that the defence had failed in raising reasonable doubt in the case.
"I find that the ‎defence was a mere denial and that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt," he was quoted as saying by The Star.
"I find you guilty and ‎convict you of the two charges."
Koong, who was nicknamed "Four Eyes" by police, was charged with murdering Hussain, 75, at the parking lot of the Kuan Yin Temple in Lorong Ceylon, Kuala Lumpur, between 1.30pm and 2pm on July 29, 2013.
He was also charged with the attempted murder of Cheong, 49.
Koong was arrested on September 23, 2013, in Taiping after being on the run for two months.
Hussain founded the Arab-Malaysian Development Bank in 1975 through his holding company Arab Investments for Asia Kuwait.  – September 5, 2014.
