Asia Next Top Model winner from Malaysia gets cyber-bullied

Model winner gets cyberbullied

PETALING JAYA — Fresh from her win as Asia’s Next Top Model, Sheena Liam is now a target of cyberbullies, who contend that she does not deserve the title.
But the 22-year-old model is shrugging off the brickbats hurled at her, terming the lot as “keyboard warriors with no life”.
“Cyberbullies are the lowest of the low. I don’t need to acknowledge them or justify their existence,” she said.
“Besides, I am quite a laidback person and sometimes quite blur. So it’s like, whatever.”
Hours after the broadcast of the show’s finale, fans of the show took to social media posting comments ranging from saying that Liam did not deserve to win to allegations the results were rigged to have a Malaysian win while some made fun of her looks.
Liam’s fans reacted by telling her not to be affected by such comments and congratulated her.
The model beat Filipinas Jodilly Pendre and Katarina Rodriguez in the finale for Season 2’s title, which began with 16 contestants from 12 countries.

Her prizes include a modelling contract with Storm Model Management in London, a cash prize and a fashion spread inHarper’s Bazaar Singapore and Malaysia.
In the finale, the contestants had an editorial shoot at Tanjong Jara Resort in Terengganu and a final catwalk show in Kuala Lumpur.
Saying that she had anticipated the reaction from some fans, Liam said there would always be haters.
“But still, I won. It doesn’t change reality,” she said.
“I was there and I know how hard it was during the competition.”
She said such reaction was also due to the fact that Pendre and Rodriguez had a huge fan base that was very supportive, adding the two models were ensured of doing well after the show.
Liam said the three finalists had become friends after the show ended and had gone on a holiday in Indonesia.
On her win, she said she did not want to think she had a chance until only two remained in the competition, adding that she had to keep silent about the results for the past six months.
“I am really excited about going to Storm in London. I don’t think I would’ve got noticed if not for the show,” she said.
