GEORGE TOWN: Family members of Karpal Singh collected his ashes from the Batu Gantong crematorium here on Monday morning.

The family, who arrived at the crematorium at about 8.30am, had requested the media not to photograph the event.
Karpal’s eldest son Jagdeep Singh Deo, who is also Datuk Keramat assemblyman, had appealed to the media to give the family members space.
“I hope you respect not just us but Karpal,” he said.
Karpal’s ashes will be scattered in the sea today, at an undisclosed spot.

GEORGE TOWN : The family of the late Bukit Gelugor member of parliament Karpal Singh painted a picture of sorrow and pain as he was rolled into the incinerator at the Batu Gantong Cemetery earlier.

With thousands congregating outside the cemetery grounds, Karpal's family witnesses the cremation process privately, along with a Sikh priest chanting hymns.
The shutters came down at about 2.30pm and loud wails from the family could be heard as they huddled together in mourning his loss.
His widow, Gurmit Kaur, 65, sobbed uncontrollably, consoled by her children.

Her son, Gobind, 41, was seen escorting her to a corner where the priest held a special prayer, the 'kirtan sohail' (songs of praise).

The family adjourned to Wadda Gurdwara at Jalan Gurdwara, where the Sehaj Paath Bohg(prayers) will be held.

Karpal's ashes are expected to be scattered in the sea.
