Police arrest owner of dogs that attacked three people

SEREMBAN : Police have arrested the owner of two dogs that attacked three people in Lenggeng on Wednesday.
Nilai OCPD Supt Abdullah Roning said the individual was being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence with respect to animals under one’s possession which provides for a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000.
”We have arrested the owner to facilitate investigations into the attack,” he said when contacted.
It is learnt that the owner was detained late Wednesday when he arrived at the police station to lodge a report over the incident.
The canines, believed to be American bulldogs, had attacked an Indonesian maid outside her employer's home after she had returned from buying nasi lemak from a nearby stall.
The maid in her 50s, known as Ruhimah, suffered head injuries as well as a broken arm due to the attack.
Stall owner Hoosni Anwar Hamid 44, who had witnessed the attack, had tried to ram the dogs with his car causing them to run away. However, the dogs attacked Hoosni when he went back to his stall resulting in bites on his mouth and limbs.
A police officer from the Lenggeng station who happened to pass by also tried to stop the dogs and was bitten on the ankle.
Lance Corporal Mohd Naser Sulaiman then rushed back to the station and returned with a shotgun.
He returned and shot the dogs which were still lurking in the area.
It is understood that the dogs were usually kept in a chilli farm by its owner. The owner is alleged to have had 10 dogs on his farm.
