arrested handcuffedGEORGE TOWN: Eighty-eight individuals, including 38 women, were arrested in a state of intoxication while celebrating a birthday party at a homestay bungalow in Jalan Masjid Negeri here, early today.
Acting Timur Laut district police chief, Supt Ismail Idris, said all the detainees, aged between 16 and 35, were arrested in a raid by the narcotics unit at 2.45 am after receiving information from the public.
“Initial investigations found the organiser of the birthday party at the bungalow was a 27-year-old man. However, the arrangement was done in a suspicious manner, the music was loud and police found various types of liquor bottles.
“They were also found to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” Ismail told a press conference here, today.
All those arrested were taken to the Timur Laut police headquarters where 35 men and 25 women tested positive for drugs.
He said among those arrested were 16 school students who also tested positive for drugs.
Police will be contacting the owner of the homestay to assist in investigations.
“It was also understood that those attending the party had to pay to cover the rent of the homestay and cost of food for the event,” he added.

GEORGETOWN - Seramai 88 individu termasuk 38 wanita ditahan ketika meraikan pesta hari jadi dalam keadaan mabuk dan khayal di sebuah banglo yang dijadikan inap desa di Jalan Masjid Negeri, di sini awal hari ini.

Pemangku Ketua Polis Daerah Timur Laut, Superintendan Ismail Idris berkata, kesemua mereka yang berusia antara 16 dan 35 tahun itu ditahan dalam serbuan unit narkotik pada pukul 2.45 pagi hasil maklumat orang awam.

"Hasil siasatan seorang lelaki berusia 27 tahun mendakwa menganjurkan majlis hari jadi di banglo itu, bagaimanapun ia dijalankan dalam suasana yang mencurigakan kerana lagu dipasang dengan kuat dan polis turut menemui pelbagai botol arak.

"Mereka juga dalam keadaan khayal dipercayai akibat pengaruh dadah dan arak," katanya pada sidang akhbar, di sini hari ini.

Ismail berkata kesemua mereka yang ditahan itu dibawa ke Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Timur Laut dan hasil ujian saringan air kencing mendapati 35 lelaki dan 25 wanita positif dadah.

Beliau berkata, siasatan awal mendapati 16 daripada yang ditahan itu ialah pelajar sekolah dan turut positif dadah.

Ismail berkata polis akan memanggil pemilik inap desa berkenaan bagi membantu siasatan kes itu.

"Menurut siasatan juga ada pengunjung yang menghadiri majlis itu dikenakan bayaran dan difahamkan ia adalah bagi menampung kos sewa inap desa serta makanan untuk majlis berkenaan," katanya. - Bernama
