The woman was trapped for 60 hours!/pic from independent.co.ukA man in China has been charged with attempted murder, after he pushed his girlfriend down a manhole, where she spent the next 60 hours trying to survive.
The woman, only known as Guo, was left in a three-metre deep manhole in an alley at Haikou City- a popular tourist attraction known for its tropical seaside.
She was found days later in her underwear, after passers-by heard her crying out for help.
While she was trapped, the woman said she tore her clothes up into pieces and made a "cloth ladder'' to try to get out.
"I did not sleep at all the first night I fell in the manhole," she said.
"I could see the darkness around me. I thought that I would not be choked to death if I looked up."
The victim said she believes her boyfriend, also known as Guo, attacked her on December 12, in attempt to escape paying her 100,000 (£9873) yuan in debts.
CCTV footage shows the man at the beginning preparing his trap by removing the manhole cover and placing cardboard over it. Later, he returns to the spot with his girlfriend and aggressively stuffs her into the hole. He then replaces the cover and runs from the scene.
The man told police he intended to kill the woman as he had an affair with her, but later confessed he tried to kill her because of the debt.
Police said the suspect was a gambling addict.
