Robber beaten to death by angry mob in Jinjang

KUALA LUMPUR: A robber was beaten to death by members of the public soon after he and an accomplice robbed a petrol station in Jinjang, here, last night.

The 9.30pm incident started when the suspect, armed with a parang, entered the petrol station near a shopping complex there and demanded for cash and packs of cigarettes from the station's workers.
Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zakaria Pagan said the suspect then tried to flee and went towards his accomplice, who was waiting on a motorcycle near the petrol station.
"A group of men who witnessed the robbery tried to apprehend the suspects and gave chase.
"Upon seeing the group of men, the suspect's accomplice sped off and left him behind," he said.
The angry mob, which had snowballed, chased the suspect across a main road there before they managed to stop him on a bridge near Kampong Delima.
Zakaria said a team of policemen, who responded to the robbery, arrived several minutes later only to find the suspect lying on the road in a pool of blood.
"Initial investigations found that the suspect suffered severe injuries to his face, and police believed that he was hit using a rock.
"It was learnt that the police also recovered a parang, believed to have been used in the robbery, near the suspect's body.
The robber's death is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
