Girl dies after being hit by falling TV

BUTTERWORTH: The Chinese New Year celebration turned tragic for a couple when their only daughter died after a 29 inch television set fell on her at their home in Taman Chai Leng, Prai.
Chew Hui Zhen, three, was pronounced dead at the Seberang Jaya Hospital after the 9pm incident on the first day of CNY.
It is learnt that the incident occurred when the family members were having a photography session.
A police source said the girl’s father Chew Hock Soon, 26, a plumber, was not at home at that time.
The girl was rushed to the hospital by her grandfather.
Central Seberang Prai OCPD Supt Baharom Abu said the hospital staff contacted the police at about 10.30pm. He said the case has been classified as sudden death.
“The post mortem was conducted at the hospital and there was no element of crime,” he said.
Hui Zhen’s mother, Phoruethai Sae Lee, 22, a Thai national, and her husband were distraught when met at the mortuary.
They refused to talk to reporters.
