40 cars destroyed in afternoon fire at workshop
JOHOR BARU - A total of 40 cars were damaged when fire broke out at a workshop in Taman Desa Jaya here.
Johor Baru Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Harun Idris said the department received a call at 1.58pm.
They arrived at the location some 13 minutes later.
Twenty-two personnel from the Pasir Gudang and Johor Jaya fire stations were deployed to the location along with a water tanker that was mobilised from the Johor Baru fire station.
"Strong winds and hot weather caused the fire to spread rapidly but we managed to put it out two hours later, though we had water pressure problems," he said when met at the scene here yesterday.
He also said the department was still assessing the damage and the cause of the fire.
"At the time of the incident there were no workers inside the workshop," he said adding that 40 out of 80 cars were badly damaged in the fire.
