Court gives George Town Casanova the rotan as well

GEORGE TOWN: A Casanova has been ordered to be whipped six times in addition to his earlier sentences of five years in jail and RM10,000 fine for two counts of cheating.
Computer technician K.K. Prabaharan, 46, gained notoriety after escaping from a courthouse while under police escort last year.
In enhancing Prabaharan’s sentences, Justice Zamani Abdul Rahim said that whipping was mandatory for the offences under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
“Therefore, the jail sentence is retained, and you will be sentenced to three strokes of the rotan for each offence.
“That means for both charges, you’ll be whipped a total of six times,” Justice Zamani said in revising the case yesterday.
On Jan 8, the Jawi magistrate’s court sentenced Prabaharan to five years’ concurrent jail and a total fine of RM20,000 for two counts of cheating in Bukit Tambun, central Seberang Prai, in early September 2012.
He was charged with dishonestly inducing R. Nirmala Devi to hand him a pair of gold earrings and RM10,000, believing that he would help her to pay her housing arrears, and dishonestly inducing R.K. Kesavaraj, 17, into handing him his smartphone believing that he could install a software on the device.
Prabaharan, who was unrepresented, said that he could not afford a lawyer, while the deputy public prosecutor was Muna Mohamed Jaafar.
It was reported that on Oct 9 last year, Prabaharan escaped and fled on foot after arriving at the courthouse here from Cameron Highlands under police escort.
Later on Oct 21, Asst Supt L. Chandkumary, 57, from Bedong in Kedah, was charged in a magistrate’s court here with intentionally releasing Prabaharan who was in her custody at 1.50pm on Oct 9.
She denied the charge and also claimed trial to a second count of lodging a false police report at 8.05pm on Oct 9 at the Jalan Patani station. Both cases have been fixed for mention on March 25 and trial on May 7 and May 8.
Prabaharan, who is from Taman Mas in Ipoh, Perak, was re-arrested at a bus stop near a fast food outlet in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur, at 7.40pm on Jan 2.
It was previously reported that Prabaharan had been charged with 11 counts of cheating in George Town, Balik Pulau, central Seberang Prai, south Seberang Prai and Cameron Highlands.
