KUALA LUMPUR: People’s Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk Seri M. Kayveas has warned of legal action against four vernacular newspapers for insinuating that he had called for the closure of all Tamil schools in the country.
“I did not say such a thing but they have been tarnishing my image by reporting the untruth.
“I have given them a week to correct it,” he told reporters after chairing the party’s supreme council meeting here yesterday.
Kayveas, who is the adviser to the Transport Ministry, said the administrator for his Facebook account had shared a link on a study by an Indian group, which had listed five reasons on why Tamil schools should be closed for good.
Among other things, the study alleged the schools had high dropout rates and
segregated the community from others.
“I had never commented on the study and it is wrong to attribute it to me,” he said.
Kayveas said efforts should be made to get more funds for the improvement, development and refurbishment of the existing Tamil schools.
