GEORGE TOWN: A video clip showing a policeman who roughed up two men by the roadside has made its way to Facebook.
The incident was said to have taken place in the Bayan Baru area.
In the clip, the policeman could be seen shouting and slapping one of them.
He then asked for personal documents from the two men said to be foreigners.
When  contacted, Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the policeman had since been transferred to another department pending investigation.
SDCP Rahim said the man was attached to the Bayan Baru police station before his immediate transfer to the operation centre of Balik Pulau district police headquarters.

A policeman has been transferred to desk duties after a video of him slapping two men by the roadside went viral on social networking sites.

The video, posted on Friday, showed an enraged policeman on his motorcycle pulling over by a row of shoplots here in Bayan Baru and berated two foreign men for not ‘respecting’ him.
The policemen got off his machine and hurled his helmet to the ground and screamed at the duo who were walking along the five-footway of a shoplot.
In fear, the duo walked towards the policeman, and squatted in front of him.
“Mau kurang ajar dengan saya? Mana mau lari? Mana passport? Tak ada passport? Takda passport mahu samseng dengan saya?”
Roughly translated to: “You disrespecting me? Where are you running to? Where is your passport? You do not have your passport? You trying to be like gangsters walking around without a passport?”
The policemen then repeatedly slapped the two men, at least four times.
In an immediate response, Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the policeman has been summoned to the disciplinary board for his actions.
“The policeman has been transferred to the south-west district headquarters to take up desk duty.
“I have ordered all police departments in the state to ensure that they discharge their duties in accordance to the law, and to not tarnish the image of the force by doing disrespectful acts,” he said in a statement
