More Arrest Imminent As Some Customs Officers Involvement With Drug Syndicates Uncovered

IGP: More arrests expected over Customs officers' involvement with drug syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR: More Customs Department officers are expected to be hauled in as Bukit Aman begins a thorough probe into the involvement of agency personnel with international drug trafficking syndicates.
"We discovered that such activity occurs not only at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. We are also monitoring other airports as well as main ports nationwide," Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.

He was speaking at a press conference after a launching the police's Integrated Public Agency Complaints Monitoring System (ISPAAA) in Bukit Aman Friday.
It was previously reported that four senior Customs Department officers had been nabbed for involvement with two international drug syndicates.
The officers, who were highly paid, were believed to have been hired by syndicate members from Nigeria and India to smuggle drugs into the country.
The drugs were fitted into secret compartments inside luggage or electrical appliances such as DVD players.
