MIC President Palanivel Announces Additional Appointments to CWC and State Leadership

Palanivel makes drastic reshuffle, ends critics

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16: MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel has launched his missiles to strengthen the party and put an end to critics by appointing the party’s new office bearers to work under his leadership for the next three years.
Palanivel, in a statement to The Malaysian Times (TMT), announced that newly elected Central WorkingCommitee (CWC) member A. Prakash Rao has been appointed as the new secretary-general of the party replacing the former A. Sakthivel.
While, party former MIC strategic vice-chairman Datuk R. Ramanan has been chosen as the new treasurer-general.
Ramanan, who is also the Federal Territory Minister’s special officer, replaced the former treasurer-general Datuk Jaspal Singh.
Meanwhile, for the party national information chief post, L. Sivasubramaniam has been picked.
Sivasubramaniam was the former Selangor information chief.
Apart from Ramanan and Sivasubramaniam, Palanivel has also selected seven CWC members.
They are Tan Sri K. Kumaran, disciplinary committee chairman Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar, Senator Datuk V. Subramaniam (well-known with the name Barat Maniam) and Tenggaroh state assemblyman K. Ravenkumar.
Also chosen, for the party highest decision body-making, were former Johor state chairman Datuk K. S. Balakrishnan, Raub division chief K. Tamil Selvam, and Teluk Kemang MIC division chief Datuk R. Balakrishnan.
Besides that Palanivel had also named the state liaison chairmen with him continuing to head the Selangor MIC.
Former Perak assembly speaker Datuk R. Ganeson will continue to lead the party in Perak.
Newly elected vice presidents Datuk S. Sothinathan, Datuk M. Saravanan, Datuk S. Balakrishnan will be heading the Negri Sembilan, Federal Territory and Johor respectively.
Saravanan, who is also the Youth and Sports Deputy Minister, is the incumbent chairman for Federal Territory.
Meanwhile, Kedah state MIC will be led by Datuk S. Ganesan while Penang chief will be M. Karupannan.
Both Ganesan and Karuppanan are lawyers by profession.
Datuk R. Goonasekaren, the special officer to the Pahang Mentri Besar, has been appointed as the Pahang state chairman, while Malacca’s head is Datuk M. Mahadevan.
In the meantime, four state chairmen will retain their posts; M. Kuppusamy (Kelantan), S. Vengadasamy (Perlis), R.Suppiah (Terengganu) and Datuk V. Jothi (Sabah).
Palanivel also said that the appointments of state Wanita, Youth, Putri and Putra leaders will be done later this month.
Palanivel has urged the party’s CWC members to get to the ground and work hard and not to be complacent with the win or their appointments.
Prior to that, 23 CWC members were already elected to the board during the national election, held on November 30.
“All state liaison chairmen should work closely with branches and divisions and grassroots members,” Palanivel said.
He also said that Ramanan, as the new treasurer-general, should immediately start work on the ground to bring in financial contributions to the party. – TMT
