Kazim Elias Announces Decision To Quit PAS

Kazim Elias quits Pas

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular preacher Muhamad Kazim Elias today announced his decision to quit Pas as he was disillusioned with the party's struggles.

Muhamad Kazim who was recently appointed as a member in the Umno Supreme Council recently, said he had been feeling that way since 2004 when he was constantly under attack from the party leaders and members.

Since 2004, I was constantly attacked by Pas members and leaders. They called me an Umno dog, among other things. As a result, I was isolated and boycotted. I could not even teach and preach at certain mosques anymore.

“When news of my appointment broke out, the verbal attacks intensified and I was called a “munafik” (hyprocrite). There was also a rumour that I was already sacked from Pas in 2011. Whether this is true or not, I hereby announce that I am quitting the party.”

He denied that the decision was made after he accepted the Umno Supreme Council member offer, and stressed that it was made on his own free will.

When asked whether he would accept or decline his appointment, Kazim said it was best for Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to make an official announcement later.

He said this to reporters at Parliament building here this morning after concluding a closed-door meeting with Najib that lasted an hour.

Kazim said the meeting, which he described as “fruitful”, was held to discuss his role in the Supreme Council, the party’s highest decision-making body.
