KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- The national professional men's doubles team, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, had to fight hard before successfully qualifying for the final of the Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) 2023 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after defeating Takuro Hoki- Yugo Kobayashi from Japan, tonight.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi, who is ranked eighth in the world, showed a brilliant performance when defeating the fourth seed of the tournament 21-16 and 26-24, in a match that lasted for 50 minutes at the Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan Closed Hall, Al Nasr Club.

The pair of the national team, who initially showed an excellent performance in the first set, were then given great opposition in the second set by chasing each other's points until at one point they were trailing 14-18.

However, the young national pair bounced back and although Ee Yi suffered a slight injury to his left knee after falling when the points were tied at 18-18, the Yew SinEe Yi pair continued to show great fighting spirit by dragging the match to extra points before taming the national pair from The rising sun.

The victory was the second time for them out of eight meetings with the Japanese pair and became the only Malaysian representative for the BAC final action this season.

They are expected to meet the semi-final winner between Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Sheety from India or Lee Yang-Wang Chi Lin from Taiwan in the final.

Meanwhile, the journey of the national professional mixed doubles, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai came to a halt in the semi-finals after losing to defending champions Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong from China.

Soon Huat-Shevon, who is ranked number eight in the world, was forced to concede when the Chinese pair showed them the way out through straight set 11-21 and 13-21, thus witnessing the 10th defeat for Soon Huat-Shevon to the 2020 Olympic silver winner .

The tournament's first-seeded pair will meet Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin in the battle for the BAC mixed category title this season.
