PETALING JAYA: Nur Sajat has clarified that her name is not Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruzzaman as listed in court documents where she was charged for failing to furnish Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns.

She told The Star's Malay-language portal mStar that reports naming her as "Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruzzaman" were incorrect.

"No, not right. My name is Muhammad Sajjad, but my full name is Sajat Kamaruzzaman," she said.

"My name in my identity card is S-A-J-A-T Kamaruzaman. There is no 'Muhammad'," she said.

The 33-year-old businesswoman said "Nur Sajat" was just a nickname on her social media and the company name.

She said the GST charge involved her cosmetics company and not her as an individual.

It was reported on Thursday (Dec 20) that Nur Sajat was fined RM2,700 in default of six weeks' jail by the Sessions Court for three charges under the Goods and Services Tax Act.

Nur Sajat was charged with failing to furnish GST returns to the Customs director-general for the taxable period from April 1, 2015 to June 30, 2015; from Oct 1, 2015 to Dec 31, 2015; and from Dec 1, 2016 to March 31, 2016, as stipulated under Section 41n(1) of the Goods and Services Tax Act.

The offences were committed at the Royal Customs Department, Kompleks Kastam Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya, between Oct 22, 2015, and June 16, 2016.

In mitigation, Nur Sajat claimed ignorance of GST at the time.
