KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has responded to former PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli’s warning that the post-election euphoria in favour of Pakatan Harapan was waning.

“Rafizi knows what will happen. His prediction on GE14 was very accurate,” Mahathir told reporters after a Sultan Abdul Hamid Old Collegians Association dinner.

He was asked to comment on Rafizi’s remarks yesterday in which the former Pandan MP noted that the ratings for Mahathir and the popularity of the Pakatan Harapan-led government had taken a plunge since the May 9 polls.

Prior to the 14th general election, Rafizi had predicted that Pakatan Harapan would win enough seats to form the federal government. This proved to be correct.

But he also predicted that PAS would lose every parliamentary and state seat it intended to contest, even in its stronghold of Kelantan.

This was proven wrong when the Islamist party won 18 parliamentary seats and 90 state seats in the election.

Yesterday, citing figures from a survey conducted early this month, Rafizi noted that Mahathir’s ratings had dropped by 19% to 53% from a similar survey in June 2018, soon after PH won GE14.

Saying this showed the decreasing popularity of the PH government, Rafizi said the figures were also reflected across all ethnic groups.

“There is a consistent 20% drop across all races – Malays (from 66% to 45%), Chinese (from 87% to 65%) and Indians (from 84% to 64%),” said Rafizi.
