Blackmailed into sex and money

KUALA LUMPUR: A 43-year old woman who struck up an acquaintance with a 56-year old man through a Facebook group ended up being blackmailed for nudes, sex and eventually money.
The blackmailer was still not done, ultimately posting the woman's nudes under a fake Facebook account and tagging her family members in his malicious postings.
Relating her troubles, with support from MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, the victim, who only wanted to be known as Siew, said she had met her blackmailer over a year ago.
She said she was facing some difficulties with her work at the time, and received good advice from the man.
The man had also helped her buy porcupine medicine for a skin condition she suffered from, and delivered it to her, which was the first time the two met.
“I was very clear from the start that we are only friends, and he knew I was married.
“However, he changed his tone after he found out I had my own business, and wanted us to be more intimate,” said Siew.
This culminated in the man demanding a date with Siew on Sept 1, which she rebuffed.
But the man, who is from Melaka, was not so easily deterred and threatened to harm her family and burn down her house.
“He kept calling and pressuring me, saying he would announce that I had cheated his feelings, and kept me up until 5am.
“Eventually he said he would give me a way out by just letting him see me in the nude through a video call, and never bother me again,” said Siew, who struggled to keep her voice steady at times when recounting her ordeal.
The man went on to blackmail her for sex with the nudes until October this year, when Siew refused to continue the arrangement.
On Nov 13, Siew said the blackmailer offered to delete her nudes for RM5,000, to which she agreed, borrowing money from her relatives to pay him off.
But the blackmailer reneged and continued to threaten Siew again, before posting her nudes on Facebook on Dec 6.
Chong said Siew had lodged a police report on Nov 14, but the man persisted.
“This man is very cruel, to blackmail her and even tag her family members under a fake account.
“Right now, we’ll let the police take action since a report has already been lodged, but he was still harassing Siew even until yesterday,” Chong said on Friday (Dec 28).
Chong said he had personally attended to 19 blackmail cases this year, seven of which involved women in their 20s to 30s being blackmailed with nudes, while two men also faced a similar predicament.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg, I’m not counting the people who call me up and cry over the phone,” Chong said.
