PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) has urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders to "calm the situation" and avoid making negative statements.

The PKR president was commenting on the recent spats between PH leaders, including that of Youth and Sports and Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P. Waytha Moorthy.

"Public disputes between or within the party must stop immediately.

"The people are always watching us, and we have very little time and room to prove that PH is capable of changing the fate of the people and the country," Anwar said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 22).

Several individuals have commented on the public spats of late, the latest being DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang.

"Friendly fire" among Pakatan Harapan (PH) politicians could lead to negative perceptions and awful consequences, he said.

"While no one wants any restriction on freedom of speech and expression, it is also important to ensure that the cohesion, unity as well as a common sense of purpose that Pakatan Harapan is not undermined or even destroyed by unbridled speech and expression," said Lim.

Meanwhile, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) strategist Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff cautioned Pakatan leaders not to fight among themselves.

In a series of tweets on Saturday (Dec 22), Rais warned that the "friendly fire" amongst PH politicians could be "disastrous".

"I am not concerned with politics, I am more concerned with politicians. Of course, we can differ in views, it must be celebrated, but pointing and launching missiles at each other is audaciously puerile," he said.

Syed Saddiq had supported his Bersatu Youth wing’s call for Waytha Moorthy to resign over the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple fracas.

This led Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy to criticise the Bersatu Youth chief for his stand, saying that it constituted an insult as it questioned Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's wisdom in appointing members of the Cabinet.

Syed Saddiq, however, refused to apologise for his action, stating that he was ready to face any action if his call for the minister’s resignation was considered wrong.
