VIDEO IS GRAPHIC. VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED
KUALA LUMPUR: A video clip showing the brutal roughing up of two men who were caught allegedly having gay sex in a parked Proton Satria Neo has galvanised netizens – but not for reasons the vigilante bunch which recorded the footage had probably expected.
Instead of being hailed for thrashing the two young men, social media users have heaped scorn on the ruffians, accusing them of thuggery, barbarism, committing a hate crime and even going against Islamic teachings.
Many commenters of the original video posted by “Anaz” on Twitter prefaced their messages by stressing that they do not in any way condone homosexual behaviour – before expressing their disgust over the inhumane mercilessness with which the duo was treated. It should be noted that throughout the difficult-to-stomach 96-second footage, neither of the two men caught “in flagrante” retaliated or attempted to flee.
Many self-identified Muslim posters derided the posse for their use of physical violence and profanity, and for repeatedly invoking God – while behaving in a decidedly ungodly manner.
The duo – who had experienced what is probably the world’s worst case of “coitus interruptus” – appear to be Malay Muslims, but there has been no confirmation of this, as neither individual has lodged a police report on the beating and verbal abuse – likely to avoid further humiliation.
The group of aggressors are thought to be overzealous neighbourhood watch patrollers – one of them is seen sporting a high visibility vest – but this, too, has yet to be verified.
Although the assault is believed to have taken place recently, the exact location in Peninsular Malaysia where it occurred has not been determined.
