PETALING JAYA: Controversial political activist Azwanddin Hamzah has been arrested following his alleged inflammatory speech and threat to attack a police station at a rally in Klang yesterday.

The Selangor Criminal Investigations Department confirmed that Azwanddin was arrested at 2.40pm at the Keramat Mall in Kuala Lumpur to assist in investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

In a statement, the department added that Azwanddin, the Jaringan Melayu Malaysia president, would be taken to the Klang court at 9am tomorrow to be remanded as it needed to investigate his alleged threat to attack the Klang police station.

The police have also confirmed that Azwanddin would also be investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for making insults against individuals, believed to be federal ministers P Waytha Moorthy and Teresa Kok.

Azwanddin made the remarks at a rally to demand justice for the late fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim who succumbed to injuries after an attack during the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple fracas.

Azwanddin allegedly used a derogatory term thrice on Waytha and accused Kok of having a hand in the temple fracas, claiming she had links to the developer, which she had earlier denied.

She is suing him for those remarks.

Azwanddin had also allegedly threatened to attack the Klang police station unless those who triggered the fracas at the Seafield temple were arrested. He is believed to have been referring to the developers who own the land on which the temple sits.
