KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat was adjourned at around 1pm Thursday (April 5) after it passed a motion from the Finance Ministry.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, in his closing speech, thanked lawmakers for their cooperation.

The Dewan Rakyat sat for 20 days, starting March 5, and ended its final meeting on Thursday before the general election.

“I hope to see you in the next Parliament session. I am prepared to face disappointment, if I am not a candidate ... . Who knows, the one who will win will be from the left side (Opposition block),” quipped Pandikar Amin.

Leaders from both the ruling Government and Opposition then gave short closing speeches.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi thanked the Speaker and the entire Parliament administration for carrying out their duties well.

“We also want to thank the Opposition even though we will meet in the battlefields soon.

“Despite our differences in the House, we hope that we will remain friends outside,” he said.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail thanked everyone for their support.

She also said that as lawmakers, they promised to do better the next time.

All lawmakers were then invited to take an official photo with the Speaker.
