BARISAN Nasional's likely candidate for the Taman Medan state seat in Selangor, Datuk Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim, 47, has lodged a police report over a viral social media post that he claimed provided donation to a foreigner in returns for votes in the upcoming election.
In his report, Mutalif stated that the person believed to be the first to share the video had tarnished his name as well as that of BN.
In the report, Mutalif stated that on April 10, he visited the fire victim at his burnt workshop located in Taman Sri Manja about 9pm to offer assistance in his role as BN's assistant federal coordinator for Taman Medan and as Kelab Putera Satu Malaysia Selangor chairman.
According to Mutalif, he offered assistance to the fire victim Azmi Abdul Malik, 41, who is Malaysian.
“My intentions were to help the fire victim and to ease his burden,” said Mutalif.
However, on April 11, at about 7pm, Mutalif was informed that his name had been tarnished in social media via Facebook and WatsApp.
“In the viral posts, it was stated that I helped a Bangladesh in return for BN votes. The post seemed like it was aimed at tarnishing my name and the party,” he said.
Mutalif urged the police to investigate the matter.
