KUALA LUMPUR: Leave for all police personnel has been frozen with immediate effect in view of the coming general election, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"This includes leave for domestic and overseas travel.

"This is to ensure that the police is at maximum readiness for the elections, " he told a press conference after his working visit to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters on Friday (March 2).

Asked when the polls would be held, Dr Ahmad Zahid remained coy.

"I would say the police force is about 99% ready.

"Several drills and exercises have been conducted nationwide, which will culminate in a drill to be held nationwide on Saturday (March 3)," he said.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minster, said he had visited certain police contingents nationwide to monitor preparations for the polls.
