Yang di-Pertuan Agong Scholarship opens for application

PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Scholarship programme (BYDPA) is offering 12 scholarships for students interested in pursuing Master's and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes for the 2017/2018 session.
In a statement today, the Public Service Department said the scholarship will be divided equally for Master's and doctorate levels, for studies in science and technology, economics, law, and Islamic finance.
"Priority will be given to candidates with an outstanding academic results who have secured a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.75 or first class or equivalent at the Degree or Masters level.
"Applicants must also have exceptional skills such as mastery in several languages and other special abilities.
"They should also be active in community activities or have produced creative and innovative works," the statement read.
The department also said candidates must be Malaysian, with age of not more than 35 years in the year of pursuing studies.
They must also received offer to pursue their studies in a local research university or renowned international university to be eligible to apply, it added.
The BYDPA was introduced in 2006 for students with exceptional achievement in academic and co-curriculum, to pursue their studies in the country or abroad.
The programme is a form investment for human capital development, the department said.
It added that eligible candidates who have been shortlisted, will go through a selection process including an interview.
The scholarship recipients will be bonded to serve in Malaysia for a period not less than five years.
"Therefore, it is compulsory for those who have completed their studies overseas to return to Malaysia after completing their studies," it said.
Applications can be made by filling up the online application at http://esilav2.jpa.gov.myportal until the closing date for online applications and for the submission of application forms on March 2.
