KUALA LUMPUR: “Sugar King” Tan Sri Robert Kuok would not have made his fortune without various government policies that had become a key to his success.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said while it could not be denied that Kuok was hardworking and had rights to pursue wealth, even the richest man in Malaysia needed an opportunity which opened doors to his success.

“Based on my experience, people, whether he is an average person, listed as the richest man in Malaysia or a politician, what are the similarities between them?

“From what I can summarise, when a person receives a key, it can open door which leads to a better future.

“If we look at the names of the richest people in Malaysia, which (list) may begin with Kuok, who was the one who provided him with the key, which saw him monopolising sugar and rice business?

“Yes, he has rights (to pursue wealth). He is hardworking, perseverant, and disciplined. But that is not enough.

“Everyone needs a key, which through government policies, to open opportunities to bigger success,” Najib said in his speech when opening the Central Zone-level of the Open Interview for 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M) at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang yesterday.

Political blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin was recently reported to have claimed that Kuok harboured an agenda seeking to replace the current government with one led by DAP.

Raja Petra had also claimed that to realise such an ambition, Kuok aspired to spark a “wave of change” among the Malays.

He also said when the New Economic Policy was launched in 1970, Kuok was said to have been openly protested the move before Umno leaders, as reported by Singapore’s The Straits Times on Dec 4 last year. © New Straits Times

Stop lying, Kit Siang. You got paid by Robert Kuok.

TTF: Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak said it as it is.

In an apparent reference to claims that Robert Kuok was behind a DAP-led scheme to sabotage government, the Prime Minister hinted at the billionaire tycoon never to forget the hand that fed him, adding that hardwork and discipline alone was never enough to bring him where he is today.

“If we look at the list of names of the richest people in Malaysia, such as Robert Kuok, who gave him the key to become the rice and sugar king? It was given to him by the ruling government.

“Yes, he is driven, hardworking, industrious and disciplined — but that is not enough,” Najib was reported as saying by The Malay Mail Online (see news item below).

Surprisingly, it was Lim Kit Siang who ended up shrieking in pain as Najib gave Kuok a slap-down. Earlier today, the DAP de facto Chief denied ever receiving a single sen from the billionaire throughout his 53 year political career.

“The latest fake news is that I have received astronomical donations from tycoon Robert Kuok through his nephew, James Kuok. I have not received a single sen from Robert in my 53 years in politics, whether through James or anyone else.

“In recent years, the false allegations made against me as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist, agent of foreign powers, has increased by leaps and bounds to unprecedented levels,” he was reported as saying.

In light of this development, I have taken the liberty to point out the following, some of which for the umpteenth time:

1. Lim Kit Siang did receive funding from Robert Kuok

2. The funding post GE13 was to the tune of RM100 million and handed in stages over the span of four years.

3. The senior Lim is a closet evangelist responsible for activities by a group of radical evangelists, who, since the mid eighties, organised various activities to turn the Chinese against Muslims.

4. For this reason and some others previously mentioned, he is positively anti-Muslim, anti-Islam, and without a doubt planning to effect a form of de facto Chinese rule in Malaysia.

Now, assuming that Kit Siang does not respond to this article, we can take it to mean that he agrees with each and every point I’ve raised. Should he, however, deny the validity to all these claims, I dare him to trigger action pursuant to law against me, failing which we can safely conclude that he’s indeed a closet evangelist who not only received millions from Kuok, he’s positively anti-Islam and most certainly anti-Malay.

Last but not least, I would like the ‘honourable’ Kit Siang to know that this article is being boosted to kingdom come.

PETALING JAYA: Certain ultra-wealthy Malaysians such as billionaire Robert Kouk should recognise the fact that government had significantly contributed to their success, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

In a report by The Star, the prime minister said that drive, hard work and discipline are not enough to reach such wealth.

“If we look at the list of names of the richest people in Malaysia, such as Robert Kuok, who gave him the key to become the rice and sugar king? It was given to him by the ruling government.

“Yes, he is driven, hardworking, industrious and disciplined — but that is not enough,” Najib reportedly said at a Skim Latihan 1Malaysia event.

“Everyone still needs the key and they are hopeful that Government policies are key to creating these opportunities,” he added.

Robert Kuok, the richest Malaysian and second-richest South-east Asian, started building his business empire since the 1950s, before Merdeka and long before the launch of Malaysia’s New Economic Policy.

By the 1960s, Kuok was already a multi-millionaire and the “Sugar King” of Malaysia — and is today reported to be worth more than US$15.3 billion (RM59.95 billion).
