MELAKA, Feb 15 — A 55-year-old policeman was arrested yesterday for sexually assaulting and beating his wife following an argument over his mobile phone two days ago at a police housing complex in Bukit Baru, Melaka Tengah here.
It was learnt that the policeman was arrested by a team from the Melaka Criminal Investigations Department’s (CID) sexual crimes unit at the state police contingent headquarters around 1pm after he was ordered there by his superior officers.
Police also seized two mobile phones from the suspect, who is a senior rank and file personnel with the southern region marine police, as evidence in their probe.
Sources familiar with the case, said the suspect’s 45-year-old wife was admitted at the Melaka General Hospital for multiple anal tears and lacerations, as well as other injuries.
“An initial report was made by a policeman from the Melaka General Hospital’s police base after receiving information that the victim was warded for her injuries at the Red Zone of the hospital’s trauma unit on Tuesday afternoon,” said the sources to Malay Mail today.
Sources said police initiated investigations against the suspect after medical findings indicated the forced insertion of an object in the victim’s anus, among other injuries.
“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect was earlier believed to have been angered with his wife after she took his mobile phone and hid it from him.
“The incident escalated into a heated argument that turned violent, where the victim was physically hit and was nearly raped by the struggling suspect,” said the sources.
The sources said the suspect was believed to have become frustrated and stripped the victim’s pants before using his fingers to violently penetrate her anus.
The sources said the victim then fled the quarters to seek treatment at a nearby clinic, which later referred her to the Melaka General Hospital due to the nature of her injuries.
It is understood that the suspect’s arrest and investigation were personally ordered by Melaka police chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan as the case was serious and involved a policeman.
Sources said the suspect is being detained and police will request for a remand order to further their investigations.
“Police have opened investigation papers under Section 377CA of the Penal Code for sexual connection by object through carnal intercourse against the order of nature.
“In addition to that, police are also investigating the incident under Section 323 of the same code for causing harm and injury,” said the sources.
