PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir went on the offensive against journalists at a media conference and accused them of being in "cahoots with the ruling party".

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president appeared upset when asked on updates about the opposition pact Pakatan Harapan's seat negotiations for the 14th General Election (GE14).

Mukhriz dismissed the question and hurled accusations against newsmen.

"If the media is not giving necessary coverage on this case, it means the media too, is in cahoots with Umno and Barisan Nasional," he told the media conference which was held at the PPBM headquarters here today.

His remarks was followed by cheers and applause by party members, including one who started taking pictures of the journalist who had posed the question.

Despite appearing perturbed with Mukhriz's accusations, journalists remained composed and maintained their decorum at their Press conference.

The former Kedah menteri besar then continued his tirade and claimed that an issue on corruption which he had raised for "three times" did not receive sufficient coverage.

"So, I would like to ask... is the media serious in airing matters such as corruption as one of the symptoms that needs to be eradicated?" Mukhriz said.

However, checks on news portals revealed that the particular issue mentioned by Mukhriz had received numerous coverage by various media.

After the conference, one of the PPBM officers apologised to the media over Mukhriz's hostility.

This is not the first time the Malaysian media, had endured such accusations by opposition politicians.
