Challenging gender stereotypes, 25-year-old Azroy Adyana Tajuddin, or fondly known as Nia, has claimed her spot as one of the female Malaysian FIFA gamers in Asia’s premier e-sports team, Order of Elites Asia (OoE).
Nia who is known as 'Makthor' in the gaming world, was ranked top 16 in the Virtuelle Bundesliga South East Asia FIFA 18 qualifiers after battling it at the Battle Arena in Petaling Jaya recently.
In her move to OoE, Nia shared with Astro AWANI, she is proud to be a part of the team and as the only female gamer that is representing Malaysia in the team.
“I believe OoE will help me wholly as my coach and mentor, and train me to become a professional gamer.
“With their skills and knowledge, I hope I will be among the best female gamers in Asia,” she expressed her hope.
In a separate interview with Era FM, Nia also shared that her love for gaming was due to the very fact that it challenges her mind and boasts various benefits as well, as opposed to what most deemed as a waste of time.
For other female gamers out there her advice was, “Don’t shy away from the spotlight, prove that you are the best and become a professional gamer,” as pursuing a career in eSports will have immense benefits.
Online, many Malaysians have expressed their support for Nia, while hailing her as their 'FIFA Queen' and 'FIFA Idol'.
And despite naysayers who criticised her role as a female gamer, Nia wrote on her Facebook page, “You can criticise or praise me in any way that you want…I'm just a normal human being that’s willing to learn. This is not just a beginning and this is also not the ending.”
OoE established themselves in 2016, and competes professionally both locally and internationally. The team currently consists of eight members from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Its founder Mohamed “Xtr3me3” Phirkhan last week told Astro AWANI, "We are very happy to welcome Nia in the OoE family. She’s always passionate and is willing to learn new things.
"I believe there are many talented female players out there who need to be given a chance. One of our principles is to support women and to never underestimate them," he said.
We wish Nia and OoE all the best in their upcoming tournaments and hope they will continue to make the country proud with their eSports achievements!
