PEKAN NENAS: Two mat lajak – illegal bicycle racing enthusiasts – were killed while two others were injured in an accident on Jalan Sawah Ulu Pulai here.
Pontian OCPD Supt Zakaria Abd Rahman said the deceased, aged 13 and 14, were thrown from their bicycles and died on the spot in the incident at 10.35pm on Wednesday (Jan 10).
He said initial investigations revealed that the group had been travelling from Pekan Nenas to Ulu Pulai after attending a kompang recital when they were rammed by a car coming from the opposite direction.
“The accident caused the two cyclists to die on the spot while the two others suffered injuries,” Supt Zakaria said, adding that the injured cyclists were sent to Pontian Hospital for treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
