Runaway Lorry Kills Singaporean Family in MPV on Holiday
Four Singaporeans killed after lorry rams their MPV
PORT DICKSON: Four members of a Singaporean family believed to be on a holiday here were killed when a runaway lorry crushed their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
They were at a traffic light at the Lukut-Sepang T-junction when the lorry ploughed into their MPV and three other vehicles.
Police identified the victims as Rosli Samad, 53, and Maimunah Sapari, 50, and their children Nor Amalina, 20, and Dayana Sarah, 17.
A police spokesman said Maimunah and her children died on the spot in the 3pm accident, while Rosli died on the way to hospital.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel took almost two hours to extricate the victims from the mangled wreck.
A crane also had to be used to lift the lorry from the crushed MPV.
The occupants of the other vehicles escaped serious injury.
The spokesman said the 54-year-old lorry driver ran off after the accident but later gave himself up at the Lukut police station.
He will be remanded today to assist in investigations.
