Pakatan to name its candidate for PM on Sunday
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan is expected to make several major announcements on the Opposition's preparations for the upcoming general election, including its candidate for prime minister.
Pakatan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) said the candidate would be revealed after its convention in Shah Alam on Sunday (Jan 7).
"We will make announcements of our future plans at the convention," he told reporters after chairing a four-hour long Pakatan presidential council meeting here Thursday.
When pressed further on the matter and that the lack of announcement could negatively impact Pakatan in the polls, the 92-year-old leader merely said that all would be made known during the convention.
"It will be made known between the convention and before the election," he said.
Dr Mahathir also dismissed reports that Pakatan adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had laid down conditions if he was chosen as the prime minister candidate for the Opposition.
"They are just rumours. The truth will be made known at the end of the convention," he said.
On whether Pakatan was ready for the polls if it is called on short notice, Dr Mahathir said the coalition was working together and was prepared for the election.
On seat allocations for coalition parties, Dr Mahathir said this would be done later to avoid any tussles.
