KUALA LUMPUR: A freed Mok Choy Lin called for everyone to pray for two Reuters journalists still being detained in a Myanmar prison, as she looked forward to New Year celebrations with her parents in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian documentary producer for Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) arrived at Changi Airport on Friday night with Singaporean cameraman Lau Hon Meng, after being released from the Yamethin Prison in Myanmar, where they had been held since Oct 27.

"We arrived back in Singapore last night after being escorted from Yamethin Prison near Mandalay to Yangon Airport by Myanmar Immigration. Eight hour journey in a four-car convoy together with officials from the Singapore, Turkish and Malaysian embassies ensuring our safety," Choy Lin posted on her Facebook page on Saturday.

"Our two-month rollercoaster ride through Myanmar's Kafka-esque legal system would have made such a good film," she added, reflecting on the oppression and discrimination depicted by the early 19th century Jewish novelist Franz Kafka's fictional works.

"Thanks so much for your prayers and support," Choy Lin wrote. "To my dear friends and brother who came to our countless court hearings, seeing your faces kept our spirits alive and free. I will be in Singapore for a few days and then to KL to see my folks.

"Happy New Year everybody. May your cherish your friends, family and freedom. Pls (please) pray for the Reuters journalists."

Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were similarly detained by Myanmar authorities for coverage of the Rohingya crisis in the Rakhine state.

The pair, who appeared in a Myanmar court last Wednesday, had their remand order extended for another two weeks. © New Straits Times
