PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been granted extra time to probe allegations of football match-fixing.
Yesterday, magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed for the remand of a 49-year-old bookie to be extended by five days.
Three players from the Malaysian Indian Sports Council-Malaysia Indian Football Association (MISC-MIFA), who were remanded since April 6, have been released under MACC bail.
The players are two Malaysians, aged 26 and 27, and a 29-year-old from Argentina.
MACC’s initial investigation found that the players were said to have received bribes of between RM10,000 and RM30,000 from bookies to influence the outcome of matches.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act for bribery and involved MISC-MIFA’s matches in the Premier League and the FA Cup this year.
