KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic at 58 roads in seven areas in the city will be diverted ahead of tomorrow's planned rallies at Dataran Merdeka.
City police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said the affected areas are Brickfields (Little India), Masjid Negara and Muzium Negara; Sogo and Dataran Merdeka; Parliament House and Bank Negara; Pudu Central and Central Market; Putra World Trade Centre and Chow Kit.
He said traffic will be diverted from 7am Saturday until the end of the rallies by the Bersih 5.0 group and the Red Shirts.
He added that the diversions were to ensure that traffic in the areas is under control to avoid the two groups from meeting.
"The public is advised to heed police directions, use alternative routes to the city centre or use public transport," he told a press conference here Friday.
Comm Amar also gave assurances that police will do their best to prevent clashes between the Bersih 5.0 group and the Red Shirts.
"We are doing our best to ensure that they do not meet," he said.
