Budget 2017 passed by Dewan Rakyat
KUALA LUMPUR: After 18 days of debate, Budget 2017 was passed at the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday night.
At the end of the final winding-up speech by the Higher Education Ministry, Budget 2017 was passed at the committee stage following a bloc vote.
Finance Minister II Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani had tabled the RM260.8bil Supply Bill for its third and final reading.
The Opposition then attempted to scuttle the budget when Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee called for a voice vote.
Kiandee then ordered the House bell to be rung for two and a half minutes to allow MPs from both sides to gather for a vote.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia then entered to announce the results of the vote.
He said 105 MPs voted in favour of the Bill, 73 MPs voted against, while one of the two sole PAS MPs in the Dewan Rakyat abstained from voting.The abstainer was Pasir Puteh MP Datuk Nik Mazian Mohamad.
