KUALA TERENGGANU: The remains of political blogger Shaifudin Mahmud, 50, popularly known as Din Turtle were laid to rest at the Tok Pelam Muslim cemetery in Ladang here on Monday morning.

He passed away in his house at Ladang around 6pm Sunday after complaining of fatigue and body aches.

He leaves behind his wife Maziah Ali, a teacher, and four children.

"He will be greatly missed by the blogging fraternity, family and friends," said a close friend Nasyuha Fadzly Daud, 39, from Kuala Ibai here.

Nasyuha said Shaifudin began blogging in 2008 and was a former pro-Umno blogger.

"Din was an independent thinker. His Din Turtle blog had attracted more than 3.5 million unique visitors. He was a principled blogger. All his writings were based on facts," Nasyuha said when met at the cemetery.

Seputih Kapas blogger Hussein Johari said Din's writing represented the thoughts of the people and he wanted a better "environment" for the coming generation.

It is learnt that Shaifudin was supposed to go for umrah on Dec 14.
