KOTA TINGGI: Five people from two families were killed while two others sustained serious injuries in a horrific accident involving a compact MPV and a sedan at the 77km mark of the Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing here.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Rahmat Othman said that three occupants of the MPV, driven by 20-year-old Nurullfarhah Md Shafi’i, died at the scene in the 3.45pm accident on Friday.
Two others in the MPV were Siti Nurullfarhah’s parents, Md Shafi’i Kassim, 56, and her mother Asnah Kassim 54.
The driver of the sedan, Sazumi Yahya, 55, was also killed together with his 13-year-old daughter Atiqah.
Sazumi’s wife Asnah Kassim, 45, and his other daughter Nora Alina, 19, were seriously injured and have been sent to the Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment.
Supt Rahmat said the accident happened when Siti Nurullfarhah lost control of the MPV, probably due to the wet road condition, causing it to veer onto the opposite lane and collided with Sazumi’s car.
The impact caused all the occupants in the MPV and Atiqah to be killed on the spot due to head and body injuries while Sazumi died on the way to the Kota Tinggi Hospital.
Supt Rahmat said investigations revealed that Siti Nurullfarhah and her family were travelling towards Mersing from Kota Tinggi while Sazumi and his family were heading towards Kota Tinggi from Terengganu.
He said it was raining in the area before the accident happened and the road was wet and slippery.
