IPOH: Police believe they have crippled a scratch-and-win syndicate with the arrests of seven individuals including a woman, who is seven months pregnant, as well as a Vietnamese woman.

Perak Commercial Crime Chief Supt Lee Ewe Kiong said police on Wednesday arrested two men and the foreigner after tailing the Proton Wira car they were in to a condominium in Bercham here.

"The three led police to a rented unit there where the other four suspects were arrested.

"Unfortunately, another male suspect, whom we believe to be the ring leader, was not there at the time," said Supt Lee when relating the 7.05pm incident during a press conference here Friday.

A total of 119 "Super Sales & Mega Sales" scratch-and-win cards and two files containing photographs of cars and supposed winners were recovered from the condominium along with RM5,430.

"The suspects later led us to another location in Bandar Baru Tambun where we recovered 15 gold bars worth about RM50,000 and a gold chain worth RM5,000, which were reported missing in another case reported earlier this year," he said.

Supt Lee added that police believe they have managed to solve a total of six cases here and another 25 cases reported in Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Pahang since 2014 following the arrests.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 32, will be remanded until Sunday.
