Councillor rapped over posting against Johor Sultan

GEORGE TOWN: Seberang Prai municipal councillor Satees Muniandy riled up netizens when his comments on Facebook on the Sultan of Johor went viral.
“I did not mean to show disrespect to the Ruler and offer my apologies if the posting which I have since taken down appeared rude,” said Satees.
Satees, who is an aide to Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy, had posted on his Facebook that Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar had no right to ban demonstrations in Johor as freedom to assemble is provided for under the Constitution.
Netizens did not mince words with most of them labelling the councillor ‘biadap’ and ‘kurang ajar’ (rude) for criticising the Sultan.
MIC central working committee members J. Dhinagaran urged Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to sack Satees.
“Was Satees’ statement issued after approval of the state DAP leadership?” he asked in a statement.
Meanwhile Dr Ramasamy said the DAP leadership had rebuked Satees over the posting.
“We feel he should not have commented on the Sultan’s statement although it was a personal posting on Facebook and it was right for him to apologise,” he said yesterday.
During the Himpunan Bangsa Johor in Pasir Gudang on Thursday, Sultan Ibrahim said he would not allow street demonstrations in the state as they disturb public order and divide the rakyat.
