PETALING JAYA: Malaysia finished as the runners-up in the mixed team event when they lost 3-0 to China at the World Junior Championships in Spain.

They lost all three points through Chen Tang Jie-M. Thinaah, Leong Jun Hao and Goh Jin Wei in Bilbao on Sunday.

Tang Jie-Thinaah almost created an upset in the opening mixed doubles match before going down 21-17, 13-21, 12-21 to He Jiting-Du Yue.

Jun Hao however, was a letdown as he went down tamely 15-21, 13-21 to Sun Feixiang in the boys’ singles.

And all hopes were on last year’s girls’ singles champion Jin Wei to revive Malaysia’s fortune but she lost 20-22, 21-14, 8-21 to Chen Yufei.
