Police seize mortar shell and RM32,000 worth of drugs from syndicate

IPOH: Police have seized a 60mm mortar round and drugs amounting to RM32,400 in raids on a drug syndicate here

Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Asst Comm R. Ravi Chandran said the raid came after two months of intelligence gathering on the syndicate's movements.

He said that were 1.219kg of heroin, 113.47g of syabu, 350 Erimin tablets, and seven ecstasy pills - enough to supply to 1,500 addicts - were seized when police raided three homes in Bagan Seberang, Taman Seri Kurau and Bagan Serai on Tuesday morning.

ACP Ravi Chandran added at a press conference on Wednesday that a 47-year-old man, a 49-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested in the raids.



All suspects are unemployed, he added.

He also said that police also seized a live 60mm mortar shell in their 4.30am raid of the Bagan Seberang home of the first suspect.

"The bomb was successfully detonated on the spot," said ACP Ravi Chandran.

He added that the first suspect nabbed is believed to be the leader of the syndicate, and said that he has a criminal record that includes drug offences

ACP Ravi Chandran said that the second suspect also has a criminal record that includes drug offences while the third suspect had no criminal record.

He added that all suspects tested positive for drugs and have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 8 of the Explosive Act 1957 for the possession of explosives, and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possessing and distributing drugs
.
