PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) may not attend the Bersih 5 rally on Saturday because of an overseas trip.
"On Nov 19, based on plans made previously, I will be overseas that day," said the former prime minister in a pre-recorded radio interview with social activist Hishamuddin Rais.
Dr Mahathir, however, pledged his support for Bersih 5 and called on all Malaysian citizens and Opposition parties to support the rally.
"Every Opposition party, including Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) must join the Bersih rally to cleanse the elections. When it is not clean it is meaningless," he said.
The interview was aired on Radio Bangsar Utama’s website at 9pm, Wednesday.
In a video earlier on Wednesday morning, Dr Mahathir said Malaysians needed to show their dissatisfaction with the Government through participation in Bersih at Dataran Merdeka and other places.
"I hope all Malaysians will participate in the demonstrations by Bersih," he said in the two-minute video.
