BMW M2 Coupe launched in Malaysia – RM498,800
It was deliciously teased on Monday, and now it’s here – be upstanding for the newest baby of BMW’s M family. Yes, the F87 BMW M2 Coupe has now been launched in Malaysia in limited units, just under five months after it was unveiled to the world in October last year.
Coming in a sole DCT variant (manual available under special order), the M2 is priced at RM498,800 on-the-road without insurance – that’s RM10,000 less than the car’s very limited (just three units brought in officially) predecessor, the 1 Series M Coupe. Included is a five-year warranty, as well as a five-year/100,000 km free scheduled service package in accordance with the on-board BMW Condition Based Service status.
Powering the lithe coupĂ© is a 3.0 litre straight-six with a closed deck and a single twin-scroll turbocharger – not the same twin-turbo mill as the M3 and M4, then. Still, it’s a feisty motor, this, punching out 370 hp at 6,500 rpm and 465 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 4,750 rpm – with an overboost function pushing it to 500 Nm.
All this grunt is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed M DCT (dual-clutch transmission) – with oversteer-reducing Stability Clutch Control (SCC), Launch Control and a Smokey Burnout function – and an Active M Differential. As a result, the M2 swings from 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, before hitting the electronic limiter at 250 km/h.
Under the skin, there’s a revamped chassis with lightweight aluminium front and rear axles, aluminium suspension struts and a tubular anti-roll bar. Other M-specific goodies include M compound brakes and a more relaxed M Dynamic Mode for the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
Mirroring the power underneath is a more muscular appearance compared to the cooking 2 Series, with aggressively-chiselled front and rear bumpers, blown front and rear haunches, fender vents, a rear lip spoiler and, of course, quad tailpipes that are a trademark of an M car.
Long Beach Blue Metallic is the sole colour choice for the M2, and it sits on 19-inch forged alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres measuring 245/35ZR19 at the front and 265/35ZR19 at the rear. Inside, you’ll get a three-spoke M Sport multifunction steering wheel with gearshift paddles, power-adjustable sports seats, Alcantara interior trim and a stubby M gearlever.
Standard kit includes automatic xenon headlights, auto wipers, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a BMW Navigation system Professional system with an 8.8-inch display as well as BMW ConnectedDrive services including Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, Concierge Services and Remote Services.
