Driver jailed nine months over indecent act
GEORGE TOWN: A 41-year-old driver, who admitted to pulling a 15-year-old girl’s hand to hold his private parts, has been jailed nine months by a magistrate’s court here.
Fernando Oscar had originally claimed trial on July 14 last year to committing the offence at a clinic in Bukit Jambul at about 9pm on July 8, 2015.
The case was fixed for hearing yesterday, but Fernando changed his plea to guilty.
The gross indecency offence under Section 377D of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail sentence of two years.
In mitigation, Fernando’s counsel R. Puran said that his client was remorseful for what he had done.
“He has repented and wishes to apologise to the victim and her family.
“He is married with six children and wants a chance to turn over a new leaf,” he said.
DPP Nurul Izzah appeared for the prosecution.
Magistrate Sri Pracha Nanthini Balabedha ordered Fernando to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on July 12 last year.
