PM Dato Seri Najib Razak Arrives in Saudi Arabia at 2.13am Malaysian Time for 3 day official visit.

JEDDAH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was accorded with a welcoming ceremony by the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed Naif Al-Saud here tonight at the start of a three-day official visit.   



He arrived by special flight at the Royal Pavillion, King Abdulaziz International Airport at 9.13pm (2.13am Malaysia time on Sunday).  Najib, who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor was then welcomed by the Saudi Arabian receiving party comprising cabinet ministers and senior officials.   

The national anthems of Malaysia and Saudi Arabia were played at the welcoming ceremony.    Also present to welcome the prime minister were Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and Malaysian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Zainol Rahim Zainuddin.   

The four cabinet ministers are part of the Malaysian delegation to for the official visit.   Najib is later scheduled to attend a royal banquet hosted by the Crown Prince Mohammed at the As-Salam Palace, Jeddah.    

The prime minister is on a three-day official visit by invitation from Saudi Arabia's King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Najib will have an audience with the ruler.   The  meeting is expected to further strengthen the close ties enjoyed between Saudi Arabia and  Malaysia. 

The king's invitation signifies the good relations that have been cultivated for more than 50 years.     

Another highlight of Najib's itinerary is a visit to the Depot Metro Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddasah (Southern Line), which is part of the Mecca Public Transport Programme Metro, or Mecca Metro used during the Haj season.   He is expected to attending a briefing on the project when visiting the depot's control station centre located in Arafah.  

 Last month, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd won a three-year contract to manage the Mecca Metro. Prasarana outbid several other major operators for the contract awarded by the Saudi Arabian Municipal and Rural Affairs Ministry.  

 It was the second international Mecca Metro contract secured by Prasarana in six months. Last November, the company won an international bid to be the shadow operator for the first phase of the Mecca Metro. That meant that the company will provide consultancy services for the project's construction.  

 Najib is slated to perform the umrah before returning to Malaysia on Monday morning.
