KUALA LUMPUR: Those at a wedding reception here were pleasantly surprised when the guests of honour – the Prime Minister and his deputy – both arrived at the same time.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were initially scheduled to arrive at different times for the wedding reception of Dr Tengku Iqbal Munawwir Tengku Adnan and his bride Ayu Linggasari at the Putra World Trade Centre here yesterday.
The groom is the son of Federal Territories Minister and Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Najib and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were expected to arrive at 11.30am while Muhyiddin was supposed to attend the wedding at about 2pm. Both had earlier attended the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday celebration at the Istana Negara.
However, a change in the Prime Minister’s schedule resulted in him arriving at exactly the same time as his deputy.
The VIPs went on stage to have their photographs taken with the wedding couple and were then seated together at the main dining table.
Najib and Muhyiddin were seen relaxed and at ease, chatting with each other. The Prime Minister, Rosmah and Muhyiddin also left the function at the same time.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and his deputy Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong were also among those who attended the reception.
The wedding featured a Javanese theme with the bride and groom attired in traditional costumes while guests were entertained by cultural performances.
The wedding took the theme as the bride is Indonesian.
Met by reporters later, at Jalan Langgak Golf here, Najib said the death of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s wife, Noor Yvonne Abdullah, was a great loss.
Noor Yvonne, 68, who suffered from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, died at 7.05pm on Thursday
